Dear Sriman Nila Madhava dasa,
Please accept my humble regards and well-wishes.
Tuesday we are celebrating Sri Krishna’s appearance. The following day is Sri Nandotsava, the day Sri Nanda Maharaja celebrated his son’s birth by distributing great quantities of his wealth in charity. That day also marks the appearance day of our Divine Master Srila Bhaktivedanta Swami Maharaja. Therefore, we can consider Srila Swami Maharaja’s appearance to be the greatest gift of charity of Sri Nanda. Sri Krishna’s appearance “to annihilate the demons and establish the principals of religion” was fulfilled in our time by the appearance of Srila Prabhupada, who appeared to give everyone the gift of Sri Krishna in the form of Krishna consciousness.
In the time of Nanda Maharaja, he gave the gift of Krishna consciousness by facilitating the appearance of Sri Krishna. Thus, everyone in Gokula was constantly absorbed in Krishna consciousness by always remembering the activities of Sri Nanda-nandana. By the grace of Sri Nanda-nandana Srila Prabhupada appeared in this world and, by his grace, we may be blessed with the same consciousness as the residents of Gokula, constant remembrance of Sri Krishna.
Thinking of these things, and remembering you, I began to think “You are a counselor, but the counseling you are doing only prolongs the sufferings of those who will be led to believe there is some material solution to their problems. The real problem is samsara, the repeated cycle of birth and death. You have been blessed to have some consciousness about this. Rather than spend so much of your time offering counseling that will do nothing to interrupt this cycle of suffering of the conditioned souls, why not devote that time instead to counseling the conditioned souls on the means by which they can become freed from samsara by preaching the message of Sri Sri Guru Gauranga? Krishna appeared for this purpose, why not help Him fulfill His purpose by facilitating His appearance in the hearts of the conditioned souls?
ya idaṁ paramaṁ guhyaṁ
bhaktiṁ mayi parāṁ kṛtvā
mām evaiṣyaty asaṁśayaḥ
For one who explains this supreme secret to the devotees, pure devotional service is guaranteed, and at the end he will come back to Me.
na ca tasmān manuṣyeṣu
kaścin me priya-kṛttamaḥ
bhavitā na ca me tasmād
anyaḥ priya-taro bhuvi
There is no servant in this world more dear to Me than he, nor will there ever be one more dear.
If you can do this, it will be the most efficacious use of your counseling talents. Those you counsel will receive real relief from the problems of material life and you will also gain the highest benefit possible; your devotional service will be guaranteed, and you will become very dear to Krishna.”
I pray this finds you well in health and spirits.
